Are you interested in learning how to bark tan sheepskin? Join us! The class starts on Sunday, November 15th at noon* with a fleshing and hide preparation course and continues Monday, November 16th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Sunday you will learn how to flesh and prepare your hide for tanning. Good hide preparation is the first, and most critical step, in natural tanning. Monday, you will get hands on experience with each step of the process from washing the raw fleece to finishing the fiber on a tanned sheepskin. Since our process takes three weeks from start to finish, you will be working with different hides throughout the day.
Come dressed to get wet and dirty. Rubber boots are recommended. We will have aprons and gloves available.
The class fee includes lunch on Monday and a finished sheepskin.
Additionally, if you are interested in top-to-tail sheep butchery, you can sign up for our friends’ Lamb Harvest and Butchery class which starts on Saturday, November 14th. Click here for all the details and how to sign up. If you sign up for the full three days; butchery and tanning, you will receive a $50 discount from the Tannery.
*The fleshing portion of the class will be split into a few sessions between noon-4:00 pm, we will confirm your time slot the week before.

Join us for a Fleshing Workshop on Saturday, October 17 at our workshop in Argyle, Wisconsin from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The cost will be $50 per person. We plan to have enough fresh hides available for everyone to flesh and prepare an entire hide. There will be an option for you to get the hide you flesh bark tanned for a fee.
