Bark Tanned Sheepskin | Hansel

$350.00

This premium bark-tanned sheepskin will make a beautiful legacy textile in your home. Hansel measures 49 × 32” with 4” of dense fiber. There are a few holes in the leather which are not noticeable through the fiber. The oil staining on the back is typical for an older wether (male) as they tend to be a bit more fatty. Because of the density of fiber there are some remnants of his life on pasture buried deep within in the form of vegetative matter. This sheepskin gives a great cushion and would be a wonderful camping companion or bench cover.

This sheepskin is being sold on consignment for a local Shepherdess at Dancing Sun Gardens. Frieda describes her farm like this: “All the energy we need on this earth is from the sun - the heat, the light, the wind, the water cycles. Farming is a dance with that energy. We interact and adjust our steps as the energy changes throughout the year and over the years. Even with the effects of the long-term climate challenges, we must respond in a ways to be able to still produce food. I’m trying to integrate all this in an attractive way”.

Driftless Tannery works with farmers and butchers to ethically tan sheepskin. They offer their products for eco-conscious consumers. Whether used on chairs or beds, sheepskin can help relieve aches and pains, regulate body temperature, and are hypoallergenic. The tannery believes in using the whole animal and always treating people and the environment with respect.

Thank you so much for looking, and for supporting our journey into natural tanning.
